The answer

Why does handover affect performance?

A finished installation is not fully handed over until the owner can operate it, recognise faults and find the design, commissioning and warranty records. The pack should match what was installed, not be a generic stack of manuals.

01 / 02

What belongs in the pack?

Keep as-built drawings, equipment models and serial numbers, electrical and commissioning certificates, settings, warranties, service schedule and relevant network or planning documents. Make sure you have owner access to every monitoring app. Record any changes from the original design and who agreed them.

Make the handover practical

Ask the installer to demonstrate normal controls, hot-water schedules, alarms and what to do if the system stops. For a business or community building, name the staff or volunteers who will receive the training. Agree how early performance questions will be handled so an inefficient setting is corrected before it becomes normal practice.
