The answer
Is a heat pump maintenance-free?
A heat pump needs routine attention, although the tasks differ from boiler servicing. The owner can watch for blocked airflow, unusual noise, errors and changes in performance; a competent service provider should follow the manufacturer's schedule and check the whole system.

What can the owner notice?
Keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves and obstructions without dismantling it. Note persistent alarms, a sudden change in electricity use, poor hot water or rooms that no longer reach temperature. These are reasons to investigate—not cues to keep raising the heating curve. Keep a short record of what changed and when.

What should a service cover?
The scope should reflect the model and warranty, including controls, electrical safety, water pressure and quality, filters or strainers, condensate and outdoor airflow where applicable. Ask for written findings and settings rather than a vague 'service complete' note. Refrigerant-circuit work belongs with appropriately qualified personnel.
