The answer

Is an MCS listing enough to choose an installer?

No. Check the installer's MCS listing for the system you want, then compare its full quote, similar work, who will do the job and what support you get afterwards.

Does the business name match?

Check that the business on the quote and contract matches the relevant MCS register entry. Ask who is responsible for the work if subcontractors are involved.

02 / 03

Is it certified for the system you want?

A business listed for solar is not automatically certified for heat pumps. Check each technology in your project and ask who will coordinate the different parts of the installation.

How will your group choose?

Local Energy Scotland's supplier information can help you find installers. Your group still needs to compare the offers and keep a clear record of why it chose one.

Check certification and the complete delivery team

Check the installer on the live MCS register for the technology you want. If its quote uses a different trading name or subcontractor, ask which business signs your contract, designs the system and issues the certificate. A logo on a brochure is not enough.

Certification is only one check. Compare the proposed design, full price, experience, insurance, installation dates and support after the work. Local Energy Scotland's supplier list can help you find installers, but your group still needs to compare their offers.
